EOD goes the extra mile
The 932nd Airlift Wing's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team spent extra time, beyond their normal drill weekend, preparing highly specialized equipment and then pushing themselves through the summer heat and humidity, deep into the forest during a rainstorm at Scott Air Force Base, in an effort to get additional skills training. Tech. Sgt. Jeff Butera (left), explains his role during the muddy, mosquito and bug-infested event to Col. Jonathan Philebaum, the wing commander. With rain soaking everyone's uniforms, and mud squishing beneath their boots, the technicians stayed hidden, communicated to each other, searched with mine sweepers, and got down on the ground in the mud to meticulously identify and remove improvised explosive devices August 13, 2016 in Illinois.
