Happy 4th of July from 932nd Commander

Reservist volunteers of the 932nd Airlift Wing located at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, gave of their time to think of the history of America's Independence Day, and to consider other military veterans who went before them, those who sometimes gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives. With the St. Louis "Gateway to the West" arch in the background, 932nd AW members and a few retirees joined in a friendly reunion to help the community celebrate America's birthday. After an appearance on live television, they worked together to fold the American flags back into proper position at the end of their parade route. The 932nd Airlift Wing had a great group of enthusiastic volunteers who carried the Air Force Reserve name on their banner and represented the unit in the extremely popular Saint Louis parade, which was televised live on local networks, and beyond, to an estimated three million households. The wing plans to help next in the Veterans Day parade in November also.

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. --

932d Family,

The 4th of July, Independence Day, and the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is nearly here.  After 86 changes were made to the original draft, the Continental Congress officially adopted the final Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776.  Those 86 changes represent compromises and adaptations made toward the common goal of being an independent and free nation.

The Declaration of Independence lined out some basic tenants which provide important guidance still today.  This year the nation has seen a lot of civil unrest and many issues present in 1776 are still present today.  This holiday, consider the unalienable rights we work to protect.  Let’s continue to fight together for changes and adaptations that accelerate our ability to generate unrivaled citizen airmen.

After the holiday, your hard work over the past year will immediately be showcased through the UEI.  Let’s welcome the inspectors and the opportunity to identify places that require changes and then let’s get busy!

Finally, as you prepare to celebrate our nation’s birth and the signing of the Declaration of Independence this 4th of July, pause to consider the many men and women away from home in harm’s way.

Wishing you and your family and friends a safe and Happy 4th of July.

GLENN COLLINS, Colonel, USAF

Commander, 932d Airlift Wing
