Motivated to run by past failure
Master Sgt. Cynthia Umscheid, 932nd Medical Group, shows off her two favorite marathon medals. She was motivated to run more often and for longer distances by a disappointment. "Several years ago, I failed my Air Force fitness test; I was in school and not eating correctly. I decided I needed a new goal to keep me going. I thought about it and I wanted to do a run in every state in America, and sat down and made a long range plan," said Sergeant Umscheid. For those just getting started or needing additional help, she has a recommendation: "Find out what works for you and start this week by getting out and walking a minute, then run a minute. Stick with your goals, have a plan and keep moving," said Umscheid. (U.S. Air Force photo by Lt. Col. Stan Paregien)
