Ready to serve and keep the flying mission on track, Chief Master Sgt. John Davis knows jets and their engines. When Davis isn't at the 932nd Maintenance Group, helping train new reservists on C-40 jet engines, he is an assistant professor of aviation technology at Purdue University. The two positions complement each other. During his 15 years on active duty, Davis worked on engines powering F-4 Phantoms, F-15 Eagles, C-130s, and a variety of other Air Force aircraft while he was assigned to Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. He was an instructor at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois for eight years and taught courses in airframe and power plant. Davis joined the Air Force in 1978 and said he plans to continue serving at the 932nd Maintenance Group as a traditional reservist. "I still love what I'm doing," he said. The recruiters at the 932nd Airlift Wing help to fill vacancies in various wing jobs that support the flying mission, including maintainers and operations aircrew personnel. Seen here in front of the C-40C aircraft are Tech Sgt. Brittany Paus and Master Sgt. Dawn Williams, who visited the aircraft recently at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. They are part of a team of recruiters who provide counseling handling phone calls, enlistment paperwork, questions, and guidance. Paus is a United States Air Force Reserve Line Recruiter at the 932nd AW and Williams recruits medical people from the Saint Louis and Illinois region into the Air Force Reserve by day, and also coaches the 932nd Airlift Wing's volunteer volleyball team. Meanwhile a maintainer walks the line at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The 932nd Maintenance Group is responsible for maintaining four of the distinguished visitor airlift planes for worldwide service. The 932nd Airlift Wing is a 22nd Air Force unit, based in southern Illinois near the towns of Belleville, Mascoutah, and Shiloh. The 932nd Airlift Wing is the only reserve unit flying this unique mission under Air Force Reserve Command. Other major areas supporting the reserve unit are the 932nd Mission Support Group, 932nd Medical Group and the 932nd Operations Group. The 932nd Airlift Wing's official webpage is created for great wing members like these. Two of the top ten Chicago Cubs fans in the unit spend a brief moment reminiscing about a World Series victory during a visit. Chaplain (Maj.) Michael Williams, at left, stops by the office of Donna Kocurek to check paperwork with the financial expert at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Looking forward to the second half of the 2018 season, she said, "I'm happy two of the Cubs are in the home run derby event (Javier Baez and Kyle Schwarber) and the rest of the season looks like It's a tight race between Milwaukee and the Chicago Cubs, and will probably come all the way down to the last week."
