Gathering to honor the fallen on day of remembrance
Just before the 7:40am Patriot Day ceremony members of Team Scott join together around the 9/11 Memorial for a moment of silence and reflection, Sept. 11, 2015, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. The memorial consists of a planter that is shaped like the Pentagon and is constructed of Indiana limestone--the same material used in the building's facade. Within the planter, foliage representing life is planted in soil from Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Emerging from the center are the Twin Tower replicas, made of the same type of brushed steel used on the towers. Capping off the memorial is a portion of a steel beam from the World Trade Center.
