The smiles say it all when our nation honors its veterans, especially near the Veterans Day timeframe of the year. On Saturday, November 12, 2016, several volunteers from the wing went out to assist welcoming home previous WW II and Korean War veterans from their trip to Washington D.C. Many of these men and women never had the chance to see the national memorials that were built in their honor. The Saint Louis Honor Flight helps local American heroes get this opportunity. These veterans are flown to Washington D.C. for one day to see the WWII Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and “The Changing of the Guard” at Arlington National Cemetery. Before taking the podium to recognize Veterans Day while speaking at Highland Junior High School, the commander of the 932nd Airlift Wing, Col. Jonathan Philebaum (at left), made a point to reach out to some of the veterans he saw there from past United States military history, to thank them for serving America and for remembering others on this day.
