March is National Women History Month, and several female Illinois unit members were recognized for their outstanding contributions at the 932nd Airlift Wing recently. At left, Elizabeth Wszalek, executive officer during the week, and 932nd Force Support Squadron Manpower and Personnel Flight Chief on drill weekends, received a coin of appreciation from Col. Roger Vrooman. He is the commander of the 688th Cyberspace Operations Group at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. 932nd Airlift Wing Process Manager and Certified Covey facilitator, Lt. Col. Stephanie Boehning, talks with Deb Teague from the 932nd Family Readiness Office, during Boehning's Thursday morning class about how communication should work in the workplace, but is sometimes misunderstood. Col. Boehning's courses are all listed on the wing's EIM page and email reminders are sent to the unit members each week to give them a chance to come participate, and not only improve themselves personally, but also improve the execution of their unit, squadron, group and wing mission.

Airman Basic Nikyal Carter is taking time between Basic Military Training and Knowledge Operations technical school to lend a hand during the holidays in the mail room at the 932nd Airlift Wing, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Carter's hometown of O'Fallon is very near the base and works as a contractor with the Defense Information Systems Agency located at Scott.
The holidays can be a tough time of the year for some unit members who may be separated from their friends and family by long distances or special situations. For several years now, members of the 932nd Airlift Wing have raised money and donated food and toy items to the 932nd Airman and Family Readiness office, which are then redistributed to those wing members most in need during this end of year holiday timeframe. Education helps improve the whole unit. The 932nd Education Office recently held a graduation event and presented a Community College of the Air Force graduation certificate to various Airmen, during a special weekend ceremony held on December 6, 2016 at the Illinois Air Force Reserve Command unit located at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The site of a long forgotten fatal C-9A crash was found by 932nd Airlift Wing historian, Master Sgt. Gerald Sonnenberg. Mid-September in southern Illinois is typically a mix of cool mornings and comfortably warm, sunny days as summer comes to a close and ushers in the beginning of fall. Farmers are busy harvesting the hundreds of square miles of corn fields surrounding Scott AFB, Illinois. It was one of those days 45 years ago on Sept. 16, 1971, when one of the Air Force's newer C-9A Nightingales crashed just off base, killing a unit member, as noted in a separate story by Master Sgt. Proud to serve, the 932nd Airlift Wing's Operation Group Commander, Lt. Col. Ray Smith (with American flag on shoulder), helps to carry baggage through the airport as he and other Airmen assisted sending out members of the Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron to another deployment location. Everyone was in good spirits and ready to go to work, just as they had prepared for over many months.
