The Air Force Wounded Warrior Program (AFW2) is a program mandated by law that exists to provide personalized support to Active Duty, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve Airmen serving in the United States Air Force that become wounded, ill, or injured and are facing an unexpected transition from the military. The program advocates for wounded warriors to ensure accessibility to care and minimize delays and gaps in medical and non-medical services.
An important component of the AFW2 program are the C.A.R.E. events which are facilitated throughout the year at various Air Force installations around the world. CARE events incorporate many components including: Caregiver Support Program, Adaptive and rehabilitative Sports Program, Recovering Airman Mentorship Program, and Employment/Career Readiness Program.
Scott Air Force Base will be hosting their first ever C.A.R.E. event 19-23 on August 2019, with a stop at the wing building on Thursday.
