Blood drive coming soon

Airmen of the 932nd Airlift Wing are proud to help others in the Saint Louis region and Belleville local community. 1st Lt. Sheri Mason-Rogier, 932nd Mission Support Group executive officer, assisted the American Red Cross as they set up a blood donation center inside the 932nd Airlift Wing auditorium June 13, 2019, at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Volunteers from the USO in Saint Louis and nearby towns also came and provided snacks and drinks for donors. Mason had no hesitations to her universally-accepted blood again. Some donors' blood can only go to people of the exact same type, but anyone can use Mason-Rogier's, which makes it even more important.

"I started donating back in high school with my dad, and I know my blood can help a wide variety of people since it's the 'universal' type," Mason-Rogier said. SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. --

The Red Cross is currently facing a blood shortage and has issued an emergency call for blood donors to give now and help save patient lives. Imagine if someone you love needed a blood type that was missing from hospital shelves. The Red Cross now has less than a three-day supply of most blood types – and less than a two-day supply of type O blood – for patients. At least a five-day supply is desired. Every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs blood. But what if it isn’t there when someone you love needs it? Blood shortages do happen.

Only people who have authorized base access can attend the SAFB blood drive. To schedule an appointment search for the blood drive by sponsor code "SAFB" at www.redcrossblood.org. Save time by using RapidPass® online on the day of your appointment

The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need some blood in our lifetime.  This donation helps firm up the supply and resiliency of our fellow Americans and those in the military who may end up needing it too.

Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross blood program on Thursday, August 8 at the 932nd Airlift Wing!
