Wing changes leadership

Col. Maryanne Miller, formerly 932nd Operations Group commander, became 932nd Airlift Wing commander during a ceremony Jan. 8. She succeeds Col. Donald Fletcher, Jr., who is moving on to 22nd Air Force at Dobbins ARB, Ga. 

Maj. Gen. Robert E. Duignan, commander of 4th Air Force at March ARB, Calif., presided over the ceremony. Alson attending were several members of Colonel Miller’s family and friends, as well as hundreds of Wing member and guests from local, state, and federal branches of government. 

The Air Mobility Command USAF Band of Mid America brass quintet provided music for the event. 

Colonel Miller arrived at the 932nd in May 2004 after having served as an Air Reserve Technician C-5 pilot at Dover AFB, Del. The Hilliard, Ohio native entered the Air Force in 1981 and is a command pilot with more than 4,300 flying hours in the C-5A/B, C-9, T-37, and T-38 aircraft. 

While on active duty, she served as an instructor pilot at Williams AFB, Ariz., after graduating from Undergraduate Pilot Training there. A distinguished graduate from the C-141 Initial Qualification Course, Colonel Miller was the C-141 Aircraft Commander on the first U.S. mission into Dushambe, Tajikistan after the cold war as the advance airplane for then Sec. of State Baker. 

She was also C-141 Aircraft Commander on a mission into Minsk, Belarus to take the assistant secretary of defense to meet the Defense Foreign Minister there.
Colonel Miller went on to serve as chief of flight safety and examiner pilot in the C-141 aircraft for seven years before joining the Air Force Reserve. 

The 932nd Airlift Wing is made up of approximately 1,000 men and women from a variety of small and large towns throughout the United States. The majority come from Missouri and Illinois. 

The wing currently flies the C-9C aircraft at Scott AFB.
Fourth Air Force has command supervision of the Air Force Reserve’s long-range airlift and air refueling units located throughout the continental United States, Hawaii and Guam.
