EDITOR's NOTE:  There are many ways to stay fit,
including running, basketball, and playing football.
This article examines another way to work on fitness:

The "Warrior Run" was
originally designed to
build esprit de corps while
providing meaningful exercise for those
who failed or were in danger of failing
the fitness assessment (FA).

The new fitness standards that roll into effect in
July make it clear that unit commanders
now need a more structured event
to provide a measurable assessment of
their members' progress/readiness while
enrolled in the Fitness Improvement
Program (FIP) or in preparation for
their regular FA (every six months under
the new AFI).

Enter the new "Fitness Improvement
Training" or FIT for short. In a
nutshell, FIT is a regularly scheduled
practice FA authorized under AFI 36-
2905. While the AFI allows for organized
practice tests, it specifically prohibits
any results from those tests from
being entered into the Air Force Fitness
Management System (AFFMS) nor
may they be used as a basis for disciplinary
action. It's there to help our
members help themselves.

The target audience for the new
FIT program includes anyone who is
currently in the FIP, or whose scores
put them at risk of failing an upcoming
FA.

As a general rule, we suggest anyone with
a composite score below 80
or who is struggling in one or more of
the components should attend a FIT
session prior to official testing.

A key component of the new FIT
will be the focus on proper technique
and ways to specifically improve your
component scores. It is scheduled to
be conducted the Saturday of each
UTA at 2:30 p.m. at the James Gym
track (weather permitting).
