Colonel Lupenski is new 932nd Airlift Wing commander

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. --  Col. Albert V. Lupenski became the commander of the 932nd Airlift Wing, during a ceremony October 16, 2011.  The event was officiated by Brig. Gen. Mark A. Kyle, commander of Fourth Air Force.  Fourth Air Force has command supervision of the Reserve's long-range airlift and air-refueling units located throughout the continental United States, Hawaii and Guam.  Col. William H. Edwards, Jr., bid a fond farewell as he turned over command during the program.

Lupenski was previously commander of the 349th Operations Group, the largest operations group in the Air Force Reserve Command with four flying squadrons, an aeromedical evacuation squadron, an operations support flight, and an airlift control flight assigned.

Lupenski earned a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical science from Dowling College, Oakdale, N.Y. He was commissioned in 1985 through the Academy of Military Science at McGee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tenn. In 1985 Lupenski completed undergraduate helicopter training at Fort Rucker, Ala. and in 1986 he attended HH-3E training at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. while assigned to the 106th Air Rescue and Recovery Group, Westhampton Beach, N.Y.

The 932nd Airlift Wing is an Air Force Reserve unit located at Scott AFB, Ill. Designated the "Gateway Wing" because of its close, 30-minute drive to the Gateway Arch on the Mississippi riverfront at St. Louis, the 932nd AW is the only Air Force Reserve Command flying unit in Illinois with the C-40C distinguished visitor mission.
