932nd Airlift Wing honored by speed racers

The National Hot Rod Association held their Midwest Nationals at the World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway Motorsports, Madison Illinois, with Lt. Col. William McLeod, 932nd Maintenance Group commander, invited to help start the event as an honored guest, Sept. 29, 2019. At left, Doug Kalitta is an American auto racing driver from Michigan and owner of the airline Kalitta Charters. Kalitta formerly raced in USAC events. He was the 1991 USAC rookie of the year in the midget series, and won the 1994 championship in the sprint car category while last year he won the season opener in Pomona, reached five final rounds, and qualified for the NHRA Countdown to the Championship for the 11th year in a row. At far right, driver Ritchie Crampton has 10 Career Wins, 12 Career Final Rounds and 329.91 miles per hour Career Best Speed. Col. AMC commander presents coins to top performers

At left, the Command Chief Master Sergeant for Air Mobility Command, Chief Master Sgt. Terrence Greene, assisted Gen. Maryanne Miller, the commander of Air Mobility Command (far right), with a special coin presentation to three Airmen at the 932nd Airlift Wing. These three were recognized as "top performers" for their consistent hard work. They are Airman 1st Class Brad Guberman, 932nd Maintenance Group Plans and Scheduling; Senior Airman Christian Reichl, 932nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron; and Tech Sgt. Jessica Roberts, 932nd Airlift Wing Command Post. AMC’s mission is to provide rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America's armed forces. The command also plays a crucial role in providing humanitarian support at home and around the world. The men and women of AMC, consisting of active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and civilians, provide airlift, aerial refueling, special air mission, aeromedical evacuation and mobility support. As the Air Component Commander for U.S. Transportation Command, General Miller is responsible for directing global air mobility operations in support of national objectives. 932nd Airlift Wing remembers World War II veterans

Commander of the 932nd Airlift Wing Operations Group, Col. Michael Maloney (standing), spoke to World War II veterans at the 388th Bomb Group reunion held in Fairview Heights, Ill., August 31, 2019. From left, crew members Tom McElherne, Jim Ragland, Jack Vann, Joe Hallam, and Chuck Neff gathered with family and friends to remember their service and those of former comrades who have passed on. The 388th BG was activated December 24, 1942 at Gowan Field just outside of Boise, Idaho. After going to England in the summer of 1943 and helping win the war there, they returned to Sioux Falls Army Air Field, SD and prepared to deploy to the Pacific. When the Pacific war ended, the group was inactivated on August 28, 1945. Maloney represented the Air Force Reserve and thanked each veteran before presenting them a 932nd Operations Group coin. Legacy and leadership noted during farewell

Senior Master Sgt. William Bassett retired from the 932nd Airlift Wing in a ceremony held August 4, 2019 at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. He was presented the American flag which he presented to his family, He took a few moments to thank everyone, looked at a list of all the generals he's served under, and touched on the legacy of the 932nd Airlift Wing that he's been a part of since 2005. "Always dream big, and always be a good mentor. It means something. Senior Master Sgt. William Bassett retired from the 932nd Airlift Wing in a ceremony held August 4, 2019 at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Bassett was part of the wing and command post since 2005. The honor guard presented the American flag to him and a reception with friends and family was held after the singing of the Air Force song. "Always dream big...always be a good mentor. It means something. There are so many friends you meet along the way, but they have no idea how much they impacted your life, and you can impact someone's life too," Bassett said.
