Penske welcomes reserve team to race

Roger Penske (center in white shirt) welcomed 932nd Airlift Wing members and family to the Gateway race track recently. The "Captain" has been racing and winning in the United States since 1958 and has scored victories in every series where he has competed. With 32 national championships, including 15 in Indy car racing, Penske Racing has often been referred to as the "New York Yankees of motorsports." As part of the event, 932nd Airlift Wing Maintenance Group commander, Col. Sharon Johnson (at left of Penske), was recognized on stage with the Indy drivers at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 Aug. 25, 2018, Gateway Motorsports Park, Madison, Illinois. Johnson was an honored VIP to help kick off the 2nd annual IndyCar race which was won by Will Power, won the 248-lap race around the four-turn, 1.25-mile Gateway Motorsports Park oval paved track in Madison, Illinois, in his #12 Chevrolet by 1.3117 seconds over second place finisher Alexander Rossi.
