35 Technical and Master Sergeants, including Total Force and joint partners, participated in the Additional Duty First Sergeant Symposium hosted by the Scott Air Force Base First Sergeant Council from Oct. 21-25, 2024. The one-week symposium, held twice annually, prepares noncommissioned officers to step into the critical role of First Sergeant.

The course included more than 30 hours of instruction from the USAF First Sergeant Academy and briefings from 16 base agencies and leadership panels.

"The symposium equips our Technical and Master Sergeants with the tools needed to support our Total Force Airmen and their families," said Chief Master Sgt. Nicholas M. Connor, Command Chief, 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing, and an event organizer. "It ensures continuity of care, so there’s no disruption when First Sergeants need to take personal leave, and inspires the next group of exceptional First Sergeants."

First Sergeants play a vital role in maintaining the well-being of Airmen and ensuring mission readiness across formations, making continued investment in their development essential.

“In all, our First Sergeants do a fantastic job of putting this symposium together to ensure our formations stay mission-ready”, added Conner
