2/23/2012 - SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE Ill-- -- A former flight attendant is back at the 73rd Airlift Squadron, getting settled into a new job--as unit executive officer. Newly-minted 2nd Lt. Liz Wszalek successfully completed the 12-week Officer Training School (OTS) course at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. recently. She was named honor graduate from a class of 79 candidates. Her OTS experience began on Nov. 1, 2011 and ended on Feb. 17, 2012.

Predictably, the OTS course was fast-paced and challenging. "There was a big emphasis on team-building and field leadership exercises," Wszalek said.

Besides family members, several of Wszalek's 932nd AW friends and colleagues were on hand at Maxwell AFB to see her graduate.

"It was fantastic to see them there," she said.

Wszalek joined the Air Force Reserve shortly after high school and worked in a variety of administrative positions at the 932nd Airlift Wing. Several years ago, she cross-trained to become a flight attendant and was able to travel the world supporting the Wing's distinguished visitor mission.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Wszalek attended college part-time and was awarded a bachelor's degree. She was selected to attend OTS through the Deserving Airman Program last year. The DAP is an Air Force Reserve program that gives qualified enlisted members the opportunity to earn a commission.

Prior to attending OTS, (former master sergeant) Wszalek was NCOIC of flight attendant training at the 73rd AS.
